Graduation from high school and/or equivalent supplemented by specialized training and three (3) years of experience in water distribution, wastewater collection, engineering and/or GIS work. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a “III” Level Certification as a Water Distribution Technician or “C” Level Certification as a Wastewater Collection Technician, or the ability to obtain either certification within six (6) months of date of hire.


Possession of FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Level certification preferred.

Code 2:  Non-essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee’s Department Head will make the determination when the employee will be required to work.
Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work physically locating water distribution mains, water transmission mains, gravity sewer mains, force mains, reclaimed water mains and all related appurtenances through the use of hand tools, electronic locators, atlas maps and as-built drawings, etc. Employee shall have general knowledge and participate in various maintenance activities as required. Employee is responsible for performing prescribed work in a safe and efficient manner. Employee shall have considerable knowledge of water distribution, wastewater collection systems and all related equipment.  Is responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of all tools and equipment used. Provides detailed written reports of work performed.  Must exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the Public, other City Departments, Contractors and Utility Companies. Reports to the Compliance Division Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Accurately verify and identify utility mains and appurtenances. 

Operate and maintain line locating and other equipment as it relates to job functions.  

Physically excavate utility mains and related appurtenances utilizing hand tools.

Properly set up and maintain Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) as required for safe operation of job duties.  

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with other utility locators, field engineers and contractors.

Attend pre-construction and engineering inspection meetings as required.   

Interpret and complete work order forms and locate tickets on a digital platform.

Prepares records and reports as required.

Exercise system valves as required.

Physically remove/replace manhole lids to verify size and condition of manhole and to verify size, type and depth of main/lateral.

May be assigned to shift work.  May be required to work weekend and holidays.  May be required to respond to after hour calls.
