Job Description

Essential Functions:

Essential Functions in Hospital Environment

  • Skilled in operating automated technology like Automated Dispensing Cabinets, carousels, compounders, packagers, and printers, and addressing any issues that arise in-line with the department’s policies and standards.
  • Provide thorough patient education and counseling for determining eligibility for aid.
  • Offers regular assistance in the pharmacy processes and ensures optimal workflow efficiency. Maintains Tech-Check-Tech validation proficiency and successfully performs applicable duties on a regular basis.
  • Be an active member of the committees assigned by the department.
  • Any other tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions in Home+/Outpatient Infusion Environment

  • To ensure that all patients receive high-quality care from the start, it is important to accurately prepare patient paperwork and enter data into the computer system during intake. This includes demographic, physician, diagnosis, and payer information, all of which are critical components in the provision of quality healthcare services.
  • Makes sure insurance verification is done with great care and remains well-informed about payer guidelines.
  • Necessary follow-up is done promptly on claims.
  • Assists with billing, accounts receivable, and month-end processes, providing valuable support to the pharmacy staff accountant and the accounting team as a whole.
  • Facilitates smooth and timely communication between nursing caregivers, physicians, referral sources, community partners, and other departments whenever necessary.
  • Expertly manages various pharmacy IT systems for smooth operations.
  • Performs tasks related to the maintenance of departmental computer systems.
  • Aides pharmacists in the preparation and dissemination of drugs.
  • Different projects and tasks are undertaken by the assistant to assist pharmacy leadership as directed.
  • Extra assignments as directed.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

Certification –Technician Registration - South Dakota Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire; Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - National Healthcare Association (NHA)

Experience - 1+ years of Pharmaceutical Experience.

Preferred:

Education - Bachelors degree in Related Field.

Certification - Hazardous Drug Management Certification - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB); Technician Product Verification Certification - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Physical Requirements:

Medium work - exerting up to 10 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently (34-66% of the time), and or up to 50 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
