The Manager Security Compliance, under the supervision of the General Manager Security Compliance, is responsible for interpreting US and foreign security regulations and programs and Delta internal security requirements, and then assisting the impacted areas of Deltas worldwide operation with development of procedures as it relates to implementing the requirements to ensure the security of Delta passengers, employees, and assets.

The position is responsible for ensuring policies, procedures and training of affected departments comply with mandated programs and address the concerns of Delta management. The position also acts as the Corporate Security Department subject matter expert (SME) for compliance with passenger / employee vetting programs (e.g. Secure Flight) as required by TSA.

Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):

  • Managerial oversight and responsibility for the Security Specialist/s on Security Compliance team
  • Monitor security compliance trends and work with stakeholder departments to identify corrective actions for non-compliance identified internally or by regulatory inspections
  • Manage the risk assessment program that is used to identify areas that need additional attention to mitigate risk under the Security Management System (SeMS) for regulatory findings
  • Analyze and respond to findings from government agencies that require a formal response
  • Liaison with regulatory agencies (such as TSA) to discuss upcoming policies, issues with current policies, operational challenges, and compliance issues
  • Represent Delta on industry association committees and working groups
  • Network with Other Airline peers to share best practices and develop industry positions in response to security incidents or requirement changes
  • Provide guidance to internal auditors on topics and priorities for internal quality assurance audit materials
  • Ensure Security Specialists provide accurate and timely support to divisions and security representatives in the field
  • Continually interface with other Delta divisions to ensure programs are in compliance with US and foreign security regulations and identify challenges that need to be overcome
  • Manage the posting and communication of regulatory documents such as the Aircraft Operator Security Program, Standard Screening Procedures for Air Cargo, Private Charter Standard Security Program, Security Directives and other related documents
  • Manage the Delta Security Manual, ensuring it is current by coordinating with stakeholders and is updated with changes to regulatory requirements or Delta security policies
  • Identify and support opportunities to innovate within Delta security processes and requirements
  • Coordinate closely with Security Operations, Internal Security, Intelligence and Risk Assessment, Revenue Protection groups within Corporate Security on projects and issues that may cross over into multiple areas of responsibility
  • Instill a mindset of continuous improvement to ensure high level objectives are met
  • Create a team atmosphere that encourages creative thinking, inclusion and collaboration
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive reports regarding significant security regulation to Delta Leadership
  • Provide guidance and support to Delta Connection regarding current corporate policies and procedures and recommended changes to process, programs and procedures based upon identified tends in events
  • Provide proactive support, guidance, coaching and motivation to direct reports
  • Participate in emergency response and exercises
  • Manage the professional development of direct reports

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • BA or BS degree or minimum of five years in airline operations, aviation security, or similar work experience
  • Clear criminal history records check with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance
  • Understanding of the wide array of historical and current threats and associated risks to aviation, and common, as well as creative, measures to mitigate those threats and risks
  • Ability to read complex regulatory documents and summarize them into requirements that are easy to understand and implement
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure to provide reliable, high-quality results under stressful situations in a fast-paced security environment
  • Must possess an exceptional ability to communicate information through oral and written means to all levels of leadership
  • Ability to clearly communicate expectations to and manage performance of direct reports
  • Must possess a high degree of self-discipline, initiative, and drive, and function well under budgetary, operational, and time constraints with minimal oversight
  • Demonstrate good judgment and reasoning in determining how to effectively deal with situations as they develop
  • If transferring internally, must be performing satisfactorily in current position
  • Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.
