Summary This vacancy is for a Mail Clerk position in the Department of Commerce, Denver Regional Office located in Lakewood, CO. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Mail Clerk, 0305, 5, FPL GS-5 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience. Responsibilities Process mail using USPS approved postal equipment. Operate a variety of mail preparation and related office equipment such as postage metering machine, sealing machine, postage scale, facsimile machines, photocopier, shredder, etc. Establish, update, and maintain distribution patterns and codes, mailing lists, and tracking systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Applicants must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. A probationary period may be required. This is a BARGAINING unit position. This position is one or more of the following bargaining units: American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 2782, AFGE Local 1438 and /or AFGE Local 1207. Relocation expenses will not be paid. The work schedule for this position is Mixed Tour. With a Mixed Tour work schedule, an employee may be changed between full-time, part-time and intermittent work schedules to accommodate fluctuating workloads and is subject to a signed agreement. Key Requirements: U.S. citizen. Suitable for Federal employment. Registered for Selective Service if applicable. (www.sss.gov) You may be required to complete a financial disclosure (OGE-450). Qualifications Specialized Experience: For GS-05, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal services. Experience for this position includes sorting mail addressed in a variety of ways for distribution to numerous delivery points; recording and controlling incoming and outgoing registered, insured, and certified mail; screening outgoing materials to ensure that they are in proper format and addressed in accordance with appropriate regulations; and/or performing clerical duties such as rerouting misdirected mail, date stamping, and screening priority items. OR Education: Four years above high school. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
