Role Overview:
Our pharmacy technician roles have evolved from transaction-focused to becoming more patient-driven. As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice at Walgreens, you'll interact with customers, build patient relationships, and leverage the latest technology and resources to help advance your career.
We have an ASHP & Department of Labor recognized "earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program. This program guides you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and helps maintain your expertise in the pharmacy care industry.
These roles are suitable both for those new to pharmacy work or experienced Pharmacy Technicians. Walgreens provides a comprehensive training program to develop the required advanced knowledge, skills, and on-the-job experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- While directly supervised by a pharmacist, assists in pharmacy practice in line with company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to retrieve patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
- Delivers customer service in a manner that creates a unique and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience:
- Proactively engages with customers and patients by offering assistance with products and services.
- Cultivates strong relationships with key customers.
Operational Tasks:
- Assists the pharmacist in the performance of duties, adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Manages all duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager.
- Ensures all sales related to the pharmacy are registered on an assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required.
- Handles telephone calls not requiring the pharmacist's personal attention.
- Assists with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing drug shipments.
- May assist the pharmacist in delivering clinical services and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community.
Professional Development:
- Either maintains PTCB certification through the designated program, state-required qualification or earns PTCB certification as a prerequisite for promotion to senior technician.
- Keeps up-to-date with the latest healthcare and pharmacy news and developments.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except for Puerto Rico)
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least six months of experience in a retail environment is preferred.
- Former experience with Walgreens is desirable.
- Strong mathematical skills would be advantageous.
- Good computer skills are favored.
- Familiarity with store inventory control is preferred.
- PTCB certification is preferred.
