Job Description Summary
The Electronic Access Control Technician is responsible for the installation of various electronic access control devices and electro-mechanical hardware for Liberty University.
Working independently and able to exercise good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Access Control Supervisor.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the electronic access control and electro-mechanical trade.
- Follows instructions from Access Control Supervisor regarding the installation of electronic access control systems, devices, etc.
as assigned and trained.
- Installs, services, and repairs various types of electronic access control devices, modules, panels, boards, wiring, relays, etc.
- Must be able to interpret, implement, and maintain control panels, card access openings, and electro-mechanical hardware.
- Responsible for troubleshooting any / all RS2 related products for all Liberty property both on / off campus including system faults.
- Must be able to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Relies on the experience and judgement of the Access Control Supervisor to plan and accomplish goals.
- Identifies and communicates problems or defects to the Access Control Supervisor.
- Works closely with the Access Control Supervisor to make sure project deadlines are met, materials are order on time and inspects final tasks / projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read and use a measuring tape, level and other required tools for installation required.
- Provides quality customer services.
- Tracks labor hours and materials as required for each installation.
- Attends all training to learn new technology of both hard wired, wireless, and Wi-Fi solutions and installation methods as required.
- Must be very detail oriented.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
Qualifications, Credentials, And Competencies
High school diploma or GED. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.
Must be detailed oriented, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communications skills.
Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Excellent organizational skills. Regularly lift 50+ pounds. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
