We are seeking Sr. Java Developers to join our team supporting an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) client.

The Sr. Java Developer is a member of an integrated agile project team, providing input into application architecture and design.

  • Maintain direct responsibility and ownership in developing and deploying components or complete application functionality using Rational Tools or Github in J2EE environments
  • Design software components from business requirements in collaboration with other team members
  • Provide support to technical team, writing the necessary required documentation as per the IRS development methodology for J2EE components
  • Coordinate, plan, communicate, develop, and review client presentations and documentation required under the IRS Enterprise Lifecycle

Location of work is remote in US, but candidates ideally will be within driving distance to IRS Federal Buildings in Austin, TX, Farmers Branch, TX or Lanham, MD. There may be meetings that require in person attendance occasionally.

Project Specific Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited college or university required; an additional four (4) years of related work experience can substitute for a degree
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience required
  • Thorough understanding and extensive experience in working with J2EE and core Java
  • Implementation knowledge of Java, and Maven builds
  • Working knowledge of web services, service discovery protocol, messaging protocols (RPC, REST, WS-*, SOAP, JAX-RS etc.), schema design and JMS
  • Experience with web user interface design with knowledge on JSP, Javascript frameworks like Angular, Nodejs etc.
  • Good understanding of design patterns, SOA principles and Micro-services
  • Industry experience in performing development on JBoss's EAP, Apache Tomcat, Weblogic or Websphere
  • Experience in working with messaging framework, and EIP tools like Camel
  • Some background in managed file transfer, XML Gateway and various transport protocols (FTP, SFTP, TLS etc.)
  • Working knowledge CI/CD Pipeline
  • Good problem solving skills with architectural, design and hands on development experience
  • Experience working in and a general understanding of Red Hat Linux OS, or other Unix-like OS
  • Experience with Shell scripting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrated success in client support

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Spring webflux - reactive programming
  • Prior implementation and development knowledge of Bash scripts
  • Good programming language skills in Python on Linux environment
  • Exposure to application server performance tuning and troubleshooting, ideally with JBoss
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with Spring, Log4i, and Rational Tools
  • Understanding of application and transport layer security
  • Knowledge of SQL and performance tuning technique
  • Experience with JBoss Data Grid or other distributed database technologies like Terracotta
  • Experience with JBoss Fuse and Jboss EAP
  • Experience working with ER/Objects/UML modeling concepts
  • Experience with Jenkins and automated testing techniques (SOAP UI)
  • Familiar with Agile / Scrum
  • Prior implementation of containerization using Docker, Open Shift or AWS EC2 instances

Additional requirements as per Contract/Client:

  • Candidates must meet requirements to obtain and maintain an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) clearance (active IRS Moderate Risk MBI clearance is a plus).
  • Candidates must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for at least three (3) years, and Federal Tax compliant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide input into Java application architecture and design
  • Maintain direct responsibility and ownership in developing and deploying components or complete application functionality
  • May evaluate new coding techniques, tools, modules, and implementation as appropriate
  • May lead and mentor entry and mid-level developers
  • Consult on requirements elicitation and definition
  • Support testing and remediate defects
  • Document and diagram application functionality using Use Case Modeling tools
  • Design software components from business requirements in collaboration with other team members
  • Provide support to the technical team, writing the necessary required documentation

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5-7 years of related experience required
  • Good problem-solving skills with architectural, design and hands-on Java development experience
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
    -Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision and guidance

PAY TRANSPARENCY

Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment.
