  • This role is part of the Government Affairs team within our Corporate Affairs division
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating political, governmental, and community affairs to support the airline s business goals on a state and local basis


What you'll do

  • Represents American in front of key government officials and policymakers
  • Develops and implements American s political engagement strategy with state and local elected officials, regulatory agencies, and key policymakers
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with community leaders, business groups, labor leaders, and government officials
  • Tracks legislation and other government actions in Chicago and Springfield, IL; evaluates legislation s and other government action s impact on the organization; and develops the organization s response to legislation and other government action
  • Communicates issues to key staff and stakeholders both within and outside the airline
  • Works collaboratively with other company departments where state, city, or other governmental organization intersect with their goals/projects
  • Works collaboratively with relevant trade associations and other industry officials (consistent with all applicable antitrust rules) on public policy objectives
  • Interfaces effectively with senior department leadership and communicates complex issues in a manner that a non-expert can understand


All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training
  • 5+ years of experience supporting a federal, state, or local official; a key government agency; or a government affairs operation

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Experience with aviation issues a plus
