If extended into the fall, hours would decrease to a max of 20 hrs / week. Extensions are based off business need and performance.

Job SummaryThe Security Intern is an integral part of the Information Security team at Workiva. This person helps solves security issues, develops tools to assist with security threats, and assists with vulnerability testing of web applications.

This person may make recommendations on security controls and collaborates with internal stakeholders to gather information.

ResponsibilitiesProvide Incident Response support when actionable incident is confirmed.Document, investigate and report on information security issues and emerging trends.

Manage and configure tools and devices to expand our security monitoring infrastructureSecurity EngineeringDevelop tools to assist with security and compliance tasksAssist with continual vulnerability testing of web applications to identify weaknessesResearch and identify potential security controls to fix active vulnerabilitiesCollaborate with other teams to create remediation strategies and timelines for vulnerabilitiesWhat You'll NeedSkillsStrong ethical and discretionary ability to handle sensitive information and dataStrong communication & networking skills (written, verbal, listening)Basic competency in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, SQL, Go, and / or Dart)ExperienceFamiliarity with vulnerability scanning tools and / or penetration testing techniques preferredFamiliarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and / or Google App Engine (GAE) preferredWorking knowledge of Linux / Unix operating systemsIf Security Engineering focused : Ability to analyze problems and devise creative solutions within business constraintsGood understanding of HTTP and common web application vulnerabilitiesEducationMust be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program, preferably in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or similar degree requiredTravel RequirementsMinimal travelWorking Conditions & Physical RequirementsReliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office.
