2024-115 POSITION: Mental Health Specialist DEPARTMENT: Student Services LOCATION: Various Schools, TBD REPORTS TO: Debbie Metheny, Director of Special Education and Student Services SALARY: Dependent upon degree and experience Overview The mental health specialist will be responsible for addressing the social well-being of students ranging from elementary to high school by providing a variety of strategies that help students cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance, behavior, and socialization. The Mental Health Specialist must have the ability to work with students, parents, school staff, and teams to improve behavioral and emotional outcomes for students. Qualifications: Applicant should possess a Master s Degree in Social Work with Clinical Certification (LCSW-C) or a (LMSW), or be a LCPC, and have the ability to provide individual or group counseling. Applicant should have experience in the areas of counseling, behavior management, behavior plan development, and social skills instruction. Essential Job Functions: Applicants should possess:The ability to provide direct individual or group counseling to students exhibiting severe emotional difficulty. The ability to provide direct social skills training to students exhibiting severe behavioral difficulty. The willingness to provide crisis management intervention services for students. The ability to provide consultative and/or direct services to students in Alternative Education placements. The ability to assist school staff and family members with the development and implementation of intervention strategies to be followed in specified behavior intervention plans that promote positive school engagement. The ability to assist in the collection and documentation of data, related reports, and child records for behavior intervention service planning and review. The ability to schedule and meet with general and special educators to implement, monitor, and revise student behavior plans. The willingness to initiate referrals, facilitate communication, and coordinate services among community agencies to meet the needs of students. Motivation and willingness to attend all required team meetings and professional development sessions. The ability to travel throughout Allegany County. Communication skills that facilitate ongoing positive relationships with school staff members, parents, and community agencies.
